How does SpamAssassin work? And how shall I set it up?
SpamAssassin is a program which attempts to recognize if an e-mail is spam using methods like heuristics, various symptoms and definitions. Each rule of SpamAssassin's tests is rated. As soon as the total valuation exceeds a pre-set border, the e-mail is treated as defined.
In the Administration > Mail section you can define two levels of values for every mailbox - tag and refuse. When the valuation reaches/exceeds the Tag limit, the header X-Spam: YES will be inserted into the message. This mark will let you easily handle spam in you mail client (e.g. move the tagged mail to a "Suspicious"-like folder). The Refuse value sets the criterion for automatic refusal and returning of an e-mail (the sender will receive a 550 ... reply to their SMTP).
